“AI & Data Protection” series – The impact of artificial intelligence on privacy
The Belgian Data Protection Authority published a brochure today titled “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Privacy”, the first publication in its “AI & Data Protection” initiative. This series reflects the DPA’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness among citizens and businesses about AI in the context of data protection law.
This first publication draws inspiration from themes covered in the December 2024 brochure Artificial Intelligence Systems and the GDPR: A Data Protection Perspective. The “AI & Data Protection” initiative aims to expand upon and clarify some of the key topics addressed in that document.
This first publication is intended for citizens who use or interact with AI systems on a daily basis. It provides clear and practical guidance to help them understand how these systems work and how they can maintain meaningful control over their personal data in a world where AI plays a dominant role.
This brochure offers an accessible overview of how AI systems work, the types of personal data they process, the risks these systems may pose to individuals, and the rights granted by data protection legislation. Its goal is to provide readers with simple and useful information to help them use, or interact with, AI technologies with confidence.
